A normal shin guard is molded to a factory shape and your leg has to put up with it. Ours softens in hot water and takes the shape of the leg it is pressed onto in about 30 seconds. When it cools it holds that shape.

The practical difference is that it stops sliding around mid-game, so nobody is pulling their sock down at halftime to push a guard back into place.

Heat water to about 158°F. Put the guards in for about 30 seconds, until the shell softens. Take them out, let the surface heat drop for a few seconds, then press one onto the front of the shin and hold it there for 30 seconds. Do the other leg the same way.

If the shell cools before you are done, put it back in for another 30 seconds. They set as they cool, and the whole thing takes less time than lacing a pair of cleats.

Yes. Heat them again and re-shape them. The material does not wear out from being molded, so you can redo it as often as the leg changes.

What does wear out is the soft EVA padding on the inside. That is a separate part, and you can replace it without replacing the guard.

The guards are one size and mold to the leg. The size you choose is for the sleeves that hold them in place.

Measure around the leg just below the knee — not along the shin — and pick the size whose range covers it: Small 8.5–12 in, Medium 9.5–12.5 in, Large 10–14 in, X-Large 11–15.5 in. Age is only a rough guide: roughly 7–10, 11–13, 14–17 and 18 and up. Between two sizes, take the larger one.

They are worn the way any shin guard is worn: inside the sleeve, under the sock, fully covered. A referee checks that guards are covered and give a reasonable degree of protection.

Wipe the shell with a damp cloth after games. The sleeves go in the machine on cold. Keep both away from the dryer and off the radiator — heat is what makes the shell soft, so drying them warm can pull the shape out of them.
